History

Llanfairpwll are now in the Welsh Alliance League Division 1 following promotion from Division 2 which was preceded by 9 seasons in the Cymru Alliance League and 2 seasons in WA Division 1.

Keith Jones manages the team and he is only the 4th manager in over 30 years which in itself is unique in these times of constant managerial changes. The team is made up mostly of locally based players with quite a few having only played for Llanfairpwll after coming through the club's junior ranks. Steve Smith is currently our longest serving player, set to begin his 13th season with the club.

Llanfairpwll's history can be traced back to the end of the 1890's and the club recently celebrated its centenary year, but like all clubs there were periods of inactivity. More recently, there was a break from the early 1960s to the early 1970s before re-forming and entering the Anglesey League. There followed a purple patch under the guidance of the legendary Owen (Now) Parry, winning the league 3 years running and the coveted Dargie Cup 4 years on the trot. Now Parry was followed by Bryan Owen and again success followed, winning all the Anglesey cups and the North Wales Junior Cup in season 1981/1982 and 1982/83.

After moving up the Gwynedd league and where the league disbanded due to lack of numbers, the club had no option but going up to the Welsh League and, still under Bryan Owen, won the league in 1987/88. Now Parry returned whilst finishing runners up on 3 occasions they won the Barritt Cup and the Cookson Cup under his guidance.

Darren Moore, Keith Jones's predecessor, took the helm 17 seasons ago and the young team he inherited took a couple of seasons to find their feet and started their success by winning the Cookson Cup in season 1999/2000. This was followed by achieving an amazing "treble" League Champions, Cookson Cup and Barritt Cup, a treble only achieved once before by Colwyn Bay. Promotion meant frenzied activity in getting the ground up to the required standard in the shortest ever close season due to the season being plagued by the fuel crisis, the foot and mouth crisis and being the wettest season on record. They struggled for the first couple of seasons but under Darren's guidance gradually found their feet.

Intermingled with all the above, the club have met with numerous extended runs in the Welsh Senior Cup and exploits against Kidderminster, Shrewsbury, Bangor City, Rhyl, Aberystwyth are all well documented and part of folklore including in season 2001/2002 met Barry Town on The Gors watched by 532 spectators and did not disgrace themselves against such distinguished opponents.

The club are now based at Maes Eilian.
