Holywell Town captain Sam Jones for has been awarded the FAW Welsh Cup Player of Round One.

The St-Asaph born 26 year old scored his and Holywell’s first goal after only four minutes, before scoring his second of the afternoon on 31 minutes from the penalty spot.

Jones completed his hat trick on 71 minutes to put Town 3-1 up against the Spar Mid Wales League club. His hat-trick brought his goal tally to 15 for the season.

A club spokesman for Holywell said; “Sam would have doubled his tally on Saturday if it wasn’t for some good goalkeeping by Tom Lewis in goal for Hay St Mary’s.

“But Jones led his team well for the full 90 minutes and his performance and determination, as well as his three goals, undoubtedly won him the Man of the Match award, with even Hay St Mary’s complementing him via Twitter when he scored his hat trick.”
