Gareth Thomas as the new first team manager

Conwy Borough Football Club are delighted to announce Gareth Thomas as the new first team manager.

Thomas, also commonly known as “Perry”, is an experienced manager who previously managed Denbigh Town taking them to third place in the Huws Gray Alliance during the 2015/16 season along with reaching the Word Cup final. He has previously managed Halkyn United, Mynydd Isa, Buckley Town and FC Nomads of Connah's Quay.

Thomas said following his appointment: "I am delighted to join the club after accepting the managers position. After meeting the board early in the week the challenge to get Conwy Borough back into the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance is one I couldn’t turn down.”

"The club is ambitious and, after a poor season which resulted in relegation, they have set out the long term plans, and its a challenge I’m looking forward to.”

"Off the pitch; the club has everything in place to challenge for the Welsh Premier League but the first priority is to get club back into the Cymru Alliance. This wont be easy as there some good sides in the Welsh Alliance and it will be a hard league to get out of but its a challenge I am looking forward to and cant wait to get started. If I felt it wasn’t possible then I'd never have taken the club up on the offer to manage them. I have had several options available to get back involved in football but this is a massive opportunity and one that I know will require hard work and patience but I am confident that I can achieve the goals set by the Board.

"I am aware we are likely to have to rebuild the squad but this is something that I am already making plans for and hope to finalise a new backroom staff within the next week, whilst also talking to as many players as possible."

"The league will be difficult but this will be the priority for the team. The cup competitions will a bonus but the league is where we need to be focused on to help try and get the club promoted.”

Darren Cartwright, Vice-Chairman: "We are delighted to of secured the services of an experienced and successful manager in Gareth Thomas. He has the know how of the leagues and players that we feel we need. Obviously last season was a disaster "on the field" for the club and it was incredibly hard to take, but that is in the past now, we move on and everyone at the club is looking forward to the tough challenge ahead in getting the club back to where it belongs in a new league and supporting the new manager and the team as best we can."
